Our Beloved Tata

Inspiration: Supported and loved by the people and subsequently by the world at large.

There are so many men and women who hold no distinctive positions but whose contribution towards the development of society has been enormous.? - Nelson Mandela

Enkosi Kakhulu Hamba Kahle Tat' Umadiba

Inspiration: What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela chose to be buried near his home village of Qunu in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. He never forgot where he came from and that as a youth he tended the animals. Later in life he loved sitting at his window and looking at the rolling hills, he loved gardening, he loved reading. Nelson Mandela loved. He was such a special human being and we need to make sure his life and struggles were not in vain by continuing to educate. He is my role model. To Madiba; my gratitude, my love and my promise that I will never stop spreading your wisdom as long as there is air in my lungs and art in my heart. Enkosi Tata, Uhambe kakuhle.

Education For A Better Future

Inspiration: Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farmworkers can become the president of a great nation. It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.

- Nelson Mandela

No country can really develop unless its citizens are educated.

- Nelson Mandela

As June approaches, with its graduation ceremonies and speeches, a thought suggests itself... Whatever career you may choose for yourself doctor, lawyer, teacher let me propose an avocation to be pursued along with it. Become a dedicated fighter for civil rights. Make it a central part of your life. It will make you a better doctor, a better lawyer, a better teacher. It will enrich your spirit as nothing else possibly can. It will give you that rare sense of nobility that can only spring from love and selflessly helping your fellow man. Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for human rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in. -- Martin Luther King, Jr., 18th April, 1959

Inspirational Men

Original painting SOLD:

Inspiration: Both Nelson Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were deeply inspired by Gandhi Announcing the ANC election victory, Johannesburg (2 May 1994)

The calm and tolerant atmosphere that prevailed during the elections depicts the type of South Africa we can build. It set the tone for the future. We might have our differences, but we are one people with a common destiny in our rich variety of culture, race and tradition. People have voted for the party of their choice and we respect that. This is democracy.

I hold out a hand of friendship to the leaders of all parties and their members, and ask all of them to join us in working together to tackle the problems we face as a nation. An ANC government will serve all the people of South Africa, not just ANC members. - Nelson Mandela

Let no man pull you so low as to hate him. Martin Luther King Jr., A Knock at Midnight: Inspiration from the Great Sermons of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. If we are to reach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children. - Mahatma Gandhi, 19th November 1921

Once one assumes an attitude of intolerance, there is no knowing where it will take one. Intolerance, someone has said, is violence to the intellect and hatred is violence to the heart. - Mahatma Gandhi, 1942

Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals - Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Ultimate Male Feminist

"We ought to imprint in the supreme law of the land, firm principles upholding the rights of women.

- Nelson Mandela AND HE DID JUST THAT!

You Can Overcome

Inspiration: Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great, you can be that generation

There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.

Nelson Mandela

Our children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. Those who abuse them tear at the fabric of our society and weaken our nation. - National Men`s March, 1997

Inspiration: As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. - Nelson Mandela

Any man or institution that tries to rob me of my dignity will lose. - Nelson Mandela

I have never regarded any man as my superior, either in my life outside or inside prison. Nelson Mandela on equality, From a letter to General Du Preez, Commissioner of Prisons, Written on Robben Island, Cape Town, South Africa (12 July 1976). Source: From Nelson Mandela By Himself: The Authorised Book of Quotations 2010 by Nelson R. Mandela and The Nelson Mandela Foundation

A leader. . .is like a shepherd. He stays behind the flock, letting the most nimble go out ahead, whereupon the others follow, not realizing that all along they are being directed from behind.
Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom

It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership. Nelson Mandela

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new - Socrates

Mandela by Anthony Caruso

Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999. Mandela, born to the Thembu royal family, Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC and becoming a founding member of its Youth League. he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign, was appointed superintendent of the organisation's Transvaal chapter and presided over the 1955 Congress of the People. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was unsuccessfully prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961. Influenced by Marxism, he secretly joined the South African Communist Party (SACP) and sat on its Central Committee. Mandela served 27 years in prison, initially on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. An international campaign lobbied for his release, which was granted in 1990 amid escalating civil strife.
