The event at the Roundhouse will commemorate the life and legacy of a 20th Century Hero. The dinner has been inspired by the House of Commons Tribute Book of Messages to Nelson Mandela. Started in 1999, the book now contains over 700 handwritten messages from Prime Ministers and Presidents to world famous celebrities, musicians, political and corporate leaders. Hosted by TV Star June Sarpong with entertainment provided by special guests Heather Small, The Body Guard Star Alexandra Burke, the Kenney Jones house band, classical dance star Fenando Montano and Rwanda's pop idol Kitoko.

About Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly.

It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.

It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.
